Yao Ming & Tracy McGrady
Posted on 03 January 2017
Off to a hot 24-9 start, the Rockets have given us fans much to be appreciative for going into the new year. With our team working like a well-oiled machine it's good to hear that a couple of former players are also going to be having a big year!
Hall of Famer and Former Rockets center, Yao Ming, will have his jersey #11 retired on February 3rd against the Bulls. The ceremony was originally booked for the 2nd against the Hawks, but due to the duration of the ceremony it will work better for their television restraints. Ming will be the sixth Rocket to have his number retired joining the likes of Clyde Drexler (22), Moses Malone (24), Calvin Murphy (23), Hakeem Olajuwon (34), and Rudy Tomjanovich (45). It will be a spectacle to see all of the big names going out to this event!
Also finding out some good news was former Rockets forwarding, Tracy McGrady! While serving as a panelists on ESPN2's "The Jump" Tracy received the news he'll be on the Ballot this year for the Hall of Fame. This being his 1st time on the ticket, you can see he was genuinely surprised.
It also seems like the Hall is going to ignore his 2013 stint with the San Antonio Spurs. He signed with the Spurs on the final day of the regular season, and while he didn’t play in the teams finale game, he held some time on the court during their run to the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. Which would make McGrady’s last time playing in a regular season game 2012.
Joining T-Mac as 1st timers on the ballot are former little man Muggsy Bogues and former big man Ben Wallace. The ballot will also have former Rockets player and Coach Rudy Tomjanovich. Who knows maybe we'll have a few more Rockets in the HOF this year!
