If Texas Was It's Own Country In The Rio Olympics

Posted on 22 August 2016

If Texas was its own country it would rank 8th in the 2016 Olympics medal count with 41 total medals!

The Lone Star State by itself has more medals than all of Canada (22). Countries like Australia (29), Italy (27), Brazil (18), and Spain (17) all fail in comparison to the great state of Texas. The 23 gold medals won by athletes with ties to Texas would rank fourth, only behind the United States (44), Great Britain (27) and China (26). Athlete's like Simone Biles, Simone Manuel, DeAndre Jordan, Brittney Griner and Sarah Robles all hailing from Houston, a lot of countries wouldn't want to deal with H-Town's count of eight golds, two silvers and two bronzes.

One thing is certain, our 2020 Olympians will definitely have big boots to fill! For more news stories, merch, and our new podcast, feel free to roam around the website!
